How Bricks are made:

Bricks made by shaping a plastic mass of clay and water, which is then hardened by drying and firing Clay materials are compounds of alumina, silica with minor amounts of lime, magnesia, soda or potash. Iron compounds, usually the oxides, hydroxides or carbonates,Clays containing up to 3% of iron oxide give white to cream or buff colours, which change to pinks and reds as the iron oxide content rises to between 8 and 10%.

Process:

        Tempering

          Moulding

               Drying

             Sorting

Classification:

(a) Technical classification: Bricks shall be classified based on their compressive strength as given in table below:

(a) Simple classification:

Each class of brick shall be further divided into sub classes A and B based on tolerances and shape. Sub class A bricks shall be smooth rectangular faces with sharp corners and uniform color. Sub class B bricks may have slightly distorted and rounded edges.

Water Absorption:- Shall not be more than 15-20%

Size of Clay Bricks:9x4.5x3 inches and 9 × 4¼ × 2¾ in. However there are various nonstandard dimensions Bricks are also available in market

Weight of Brick:Standard weight is 3.2 kg to 4.0 kg/ pc, again It may vary from State to State and Size of Bricks available in market
